Exhibition ‘Roads of Friendship: Sun Yat-sen, Soong Ching Ling and Russia‘ Held in Russia

In celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Xinhai Revolution, the exhibition "Roads of Friendship: Sun Yat-sen, Soong Ching Ling and Russia" was inaugurated in the Russia State Central Museum of Contemporary Russian History on March 16. The exhibition is a jointly hosted by China Soong Ching Ling Foundation (CSCLF) and World Public Forum: Dialogue of Civilizations from Russia.

Chargé d'affaires to Russia Zhang Haizhou,CSCLF Secretary General Li Ning, Chairman of Russia-China Friendship Association Mikhail Titarenko, and Director of the State Central Museum of Contemporary Russian History Sergey Arkhangelov presented the inauguration along with over 200 representatives from all walks of life. Among them there are staff in Russia Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Chinese-funded organizations, Chinese and Russian media as well as representatives of overseas Chinese and Chinese students and Chinese scholars. Secretary general Li Ning delivered the opening speech.

Nearly 200 pieces of relics and photos were on display. The "Last Letter to Russia" by Sun Yat-sen, letters between Sun and the Russian government and Vladimir Lenin's comments, Soong Ching Ling's  collection of Russian handicrafts, books, music records, Russian-made recording machine, the outfit and handbag she wore when visiting Russia were rare personal belongings. Other exhibits, the embroidered wedding dress of Soong's mother and the wedding gift given by her mother—Su embroidery of 100 children,have reflected Chinese traditional culture from an unique aspect. In addition, collected by Russia State Central Museum of Contemporary Russian History , the gift from the Chinese Party Delegation when visiting Russia in 1957 and precious photos of Sun Yat-sen and Russian counselors are all part of the rare exhibitions.

Li Ning reviewed the positive contribution made by Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching Ling to the development of friendship between China and Russia. He said:" As a NGO named after the honorary Chairperson of the PRC Soong Ching Ling, Soong Ching Ling Foundation has deemed developing friendship between China and Russia as well as boosting mutual prosperity as its responsibility. The exhibition "Roads of Friendship: Sun Yat-sen, Soong Ching Ling and Russia" co-hosted by CSCLF and World Public Forum: Dialogue of Civilizations is a substantial cooperation. Through this exhibition, we wish to enhance the cooperation with Russian NGOs to hold more characteristic, interesting and varied communication and exchange activities for Chinese and Russian youth. This will make greater contribution to the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Journalists from China Central Television, Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, Guangming Daily and China Radio International 's Moscow office and 86 local TV stations, radio stations and websites took part in the press conference. Chinese and foreign journalists made feature reports on the exhibition in Chinese, Russian and English respectively.

The exhibition will be concluded on April 3rd, and will continue to be on display in the Russian Political History Museum in St. Petersburg from April 8th to 29th. The exhibition mainly provides cultural relics from former residence of Soong Ching Ling, and is supplemented by collections from the Russia State Central Museum of Contemporary Russian History. This is the first time the cultural relics from former residence of Soong Ching Ling  on display in Russia.
