Deputy Director of the Working Committee on Children and Women under the State Council and Vice President and First Member of the Secretariat of All-China Women's Federation Song Xiuyan, at the invitation of Party of European Socialist Women's Organization, took part yesterday in the Party's symposium in Brussels to mark the 100th Anniversary of International Women's Day.
Song, on behalf of China's 600 million women, first conveyed greetings to the women present at the meeting and outlined the work and achievements of the Chinese government and All-China Women's Federation in protecting women's rights and interests and promoting women's development.
Song went on to say that China is a developing country with a large population. She pointed out that the huge gap between rural and urban areas, unbalanced development, economic structural adjustments and social restructuring all raise great challenges to women's development and rights and interests protection in the country.
Song concluded her speech by saying that China will continue to cooperate with European countries in striving for women's development in the new century.
