The Beijing Lean In Organization is the first Chinese Lean In Circle set up by a group of young professional women in Beijing inspired by the book Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead, co-written by Facebook's Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg and American journalist and TV writer Nell Scovell.

Since it was founded in August 2013, the organization has organized a number of social activities to discuss the information the book conveys to professional women and how Chinese women can achieve their professional goals.

Lean In, a non-profit organization named after the book title, was co-founded by Sandberg and Rachel Thomas in March 2013.

It is aimed at creating a global community that encourages women to be active and ambitious and to "lean in" and contribute more during the decision-making process. Lean In.org puts on seminars, lectures, videos and shares experiences online.

According to a survey conducted online by Lean In, women in Beijing said their priorities were to develop contacts outside their immediate work circle and to have access to a career mentor.

"The main idea that Sandberg conveys to us is to overcome the internal factors that prevent our success and to fight for our own rights and interests," said Allison Ye, one of the founders of the Beijing Lean In Organization.

When Sandberg visited China, she took some time out to meet with members of the Beijing Lean In Organization on September 12.
