The Award for the March 8 Red-Banner Pacesetters and Collectives has been organized by the All-China Women's Federation since 1960. The award is an honor for exemplary workers or collectives who have made extraordinary achievements in building socialism. The award intends to motivate women to actively participate in social and economic development. "March 8 Red-Banner Pacesetters and Collectives" is a title for outstanding Chinese women.
The All-China Women's Federation held a selection event for the March 8 Red-Banner Pacesetters and Collectives for the first time in 1960. The winners were mostly exemplary workers in agriculture or industry. The awarding process was stopped during the Cultural Revolution (1966-1976). The giving of the award resumed in 1979.
