The Laureus China Sports Awards wrapped up in Beijing on Thursday, December 15, with the women's volleyball team being the biggest winner at the ceremony.

Lang Ping took home the trophy for Best Coach, being praised for leadership that lifted China's volleyball out of a long slump.

Her team was crowned Team of the Year, as it brought home its first Olympic gold medal since the Athens Olympic Games 12 years ago.

A highlight of the event saw China's "Diving Queen" Wu Minxia recognized as Best Female Athlete.

The 31-year-old springboard diver officially announced her retirement following a recent series of injuries, after receiving the honor. She said the award is a recognition and compliment to her sports career.

The Shanghai native is an eight-time world champion and also participated in four Olympic Games winning five gold medals.

She made history as the first female diver to win gold in three consecutive Games.
