For the first time ever, the French Academy of Sciences has presented prizes to two Chinese laureates who are currently based overseas, at its national annual awards ceremony held on November 21.
Mathematician Ma Xiaonan was honored with the Grand Prix Sophie Germain 2017, while biochemist Peng Ling was awarded the Prix du Docteur et de Madame Henri Labbé.
Peng has served as director of research at France's National Center for Scientific Research since 2008. She also works as a leader at the Interdisciplinary Center of Nano-science of Marseille and is visiting professor at China Pharmaceutical University.
In recent years, she has contributed efforts to the field of nano-sciences and has successfully launched a new direction in biochemical studies in regard to human genes.
The Prix du Docteur et de Madame Henri Labbé, which began in 1948, is awarded to outstanding biochemists in France. It was first introduced as a quadrennial award and became an annual award this year.
