Top gaokao scorers dressed in ancient finery, just like the best students used to do in the past, ride through a park in Hubei Province. []

A line of young people astride horses and dressed in traditional Chinese costumes were spotted at a park in Xiangyang, central China's Hubei Province on July 9. They turned out to be students with top gaokao scores, reported.

A local culture park in the city awarded 10,000 yuan (U.S. $1,661) separately to the province's top students in arts and science in this year's national college entrance exam, while another 6,000 yuan was given to the student who placed second in science.

The procession drew numerous spectators, and while some thought it was funny, others believed it was just grandstanding, for the poor students should be paid more attention to.
