The election of transgender 30-year-old Yonlanda to public service in Thailand has stirred great debate on social networks in the country, as she has refused to change her female dressing style in public.

Yonlada, who successfully defeated several male contestants in the election for regional parliament members in May, underwent gender reassignment surgery when she was 16 years old.

Yonlada has previously been involved in a wide variety of fields, from the jewelry business to radio broadcasting. In addition, she holds a doctoral degree and has served as the president of the Trans Female Association of Thailand.
