Li Junqin, a pediatric nurse from Handan Maternity and Child Health Hospital in north China's Hebei Province, has been dedicated to the care of her patients and the cultivation of junior colleagues in the past two decades.

Li became a nurse at the department of pediatrics in the hospital when she graduated from Handan Vocational School for Medicine 22 years ago. Since then, she has always treated visiting patients as her relatives and tried her utmost to meet their demands during her attendance in their wards.

Moreover, many patients have benefited a lot from her expertise and experience. For instance, it was her timely reminder to doctors based on her intuition that saved the life of a child who was later confirmed to have been poisoned by a pesticide. She focused her attention on closer cooperation with doctors on the spot whilst cleaning away waste unconsciously given out by the child in the process of medical treatment.

In response, her sacrifices have won recognition and praise from both teenage patients and their families.

In the meantime Li has been preoccupied with creating opportunities for her colleagues to receive further education in their profession and offering all possible assistance when they encounter difficulties in their personal lives. Right now, an atmosphere of mutual assistance has been formed amongst them.

However, others may never know what kinds of pains and miseries she endured when her son died of complicated bronchopneumonia or pulmonary infection in August 2014. Before his death, she was too busy with her work in hospital to accompany him twice to receive medical treatment in Beijing.

Li chose to stand together with her colleagues and patients when the hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD), a viral infection that causes sores in the mouth and on the hands, feet, and sometimes the buttocks of infants, broke out in the springs of 2009 and 2014. As a result, her son parted with her forever when she failed to arrange a bone-marrow transplantation for him.

To the surprise of her colleagues, Li quickly returned to her wok and immersed herself into the care for ill children..

Right now, she has also spared the time, along with her colleagues, to frequently engage in charity events during her off-duty time.
