Cecilia Cheung--A Fresh Young Beauty
Handpicked by comedian Stephen Chow, Cecilia made her first film debut in his 1999 Chinese New Year release "King of Comedy", playing a nightclub hostess who experiences an unhappy love affair.
Cecilia Cheung was born on May 24, 1980 in Hong Kong. She was sent to Australia to study at the age of 14 as her parents divorced. At 17, she returned home after finishing her secondary studies in Australia. Since she appeared in a television commercial for a soft drink, talent agents set their eyes on her, a fresh young beauty.

Handpicked by comedian Stephen Chow, Cecilia made her first film debut in his 1999 Chinese New Year release "King of Comedy", playing a nightclub hostess who experiences an unhappy love affair. Though Cecilia was not satisfied with her performance in the film, and hoped that she could do a better job in her next role, the movie made her everyone's dream girl. And, she had a pile of ads to be released. Moreover, she decided to launch her singing career as a rookie, releasing her first CD entitled "Any Weather" in July1999. Her other albums include "Destination", "A Brand New Me", "Cecilia Cheung" and "A Brand New Image".

Cecilia then joined the cast of "Fly Me to Polaris" costarring popular Taiwanese star Richie Ren. The film was a rousing success and this performance established her as a formidable new force in Hong Kong cinema and forged her career as a glittering A-list actress.

Cecilia is without a parallel for her age. Despite her age, she has experienced a lot by being sent to study overseas at a young age, and she has a pretty complicated family situation. This background has been a great advantage. With only a few years of acting behind her, Cecilia displays her glittering acting talents in the roles that would have challenged many more experienced actresses. Cecilia, although possessing the flawless features and sexy figure demanded of a leading lady, has undergone plenty of difficulties and drawbacks before coming into fame. And her eventful family life and romantic affairs do contribute to her molding of different characters.

She is popular because, unlike many other stars, she tries to behave in a natural way. She can smile and cry, or even shout at people she dislikes. Unfortunately, she crushed part of her vertebra during a stunt-gone-wrong for an event in a charity concert, and nearly snapped her spinal cord in the beginning of 2002.

Cecilia is 165cm tall and speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. She has a cute girly charm. With her good looks, fine acting

and, most important of all, her eventful love life, she is always the center of attention and draws the media like a moth to a spotlight. Every tidbit about her life or career hits the headlines of Chinese entertainment pages.

Each film she participated such as "The Lion Roars", "The Legend of Zu", "Cat and Mouse", "Running on Karma", "Lost In Time" and "The Promise" (Chen Kaige's new movie that has garnered wide media attention) has never lacked for publicity. Though initially, her family was reluctant to allow her to enter the entertainment industry, she was young when she started her performance career and she always hung out late because she felt like it was a waste of time to stay at home. Her childhood, her debut in the entertainment circle, her real or rumored loves (such as Daniel Chan, Nicholas Tse and Jordan Chan), her family or friends and even a simple trip to the seaside becomes hot fodder for her fans. She used to get upset at all the lies and gossip.

Cecilia has a magical and subtle voice. You can hear the passion in her songs - the sign of a true and great singer. Although she is not a captivating vocalist to some ears, she did sing some songs that are quite good because she has got a cute singing voice. The theme song of "Fly Me to Polaris" is my favorite.

Cecilia once again draws wide attention as she gets a stunning salary to star as the legendary singer in her premiere TV drama "Zhou Xuan" and Madame Tussauds Hong Kong took her as the next in line to be immortal zed in wax.
