An army training base in the Southern Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) held a special wedding for nine soldiers and their wives on the eve of Army Day to celebrate the 91st founding anniversary of PLA.

The base is reorganized from three units which extend across three provinces and six cities, according to officials.

The event aimed to encourage officers and soldiers to devote themselves to the army.

At the marriage proposal part, Li Zhirui, staff officer of the Training and Security Department, said he and his wife met five years ago and he fulfills his promise to hold a grand wedding for her on the sixth Army Day they spend together.

They registered for marriage in 2017 but failed to hold a wedding ceremony due to Li’s training base reorganization and military drills.

"In the past five years, my husband has been transferred to four different places and I accompany him everywhere. The wedding fulfills my wish and I further understand my responsibility as a military spouse," said Li's wife.

Another soldier Qiu Chunsheng is very happy when talking about his wife. "We got hooked up through my relative and I returned to the troops a few days later. I never expected that she would come to visit me," he said.

"I knew that he was the love of my life from the moment I saw him," Qiu's wife said. "His strong sense of responsibility attracted me deeply and I know that it is never wrong to marry a soldier."
