Da Shihua, a senior citizen who became a member of the Communist Party of China at the age of 90, has devoted her life to helping people. "Offer convenience to others; leave difficulties to self," is her motto. Over the past years, Da has put that motto into practice.
Da was born in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province, and got married in the northeastern city of Dalian. She came to Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang Province, after her retirement.
On Dec. 18, 2016, Da became a member of the Party. "Becoming a Party member means I have more responsibilities. I will perform my duty to serve the people," Da said. She is proud that all four of her family members are Party members.
In 1983, Da became a member of the neighborhood committee in Hangzhou. In 1986, she became a health physician at the clinic in her residential community.
The community was far from the hospital and the surrounding road was bad, so she volunteered to examine pregnant women in her community and even taught the new mothers how to take care of their newborns.
After the 90s, Da began to help the elderly. She set up a monitoring site in her community to help seniors who had high blood pressure, offering regular blood pressure tests for over 500 who were not taking medicine.
"My life dream of being a useful person has come true," Da said with pride.
