Young Writer Wins National Children's Literature Award

Young writer Zuo Xuan won the Fairy Tale Award at the All-China Outstanding Children's Literature Award on July 19, 2013, becoming the first awarded writer born in the 1980s.

Zuo, born in 1981, is a children's book editor at the People's Literature Publishing House. She holds a doctorate in children's education from Beijing Normal University. She won the Fairy Tale Award with her book Bibi Living on the House Beam, which is a story about a fairy living and growing up in a small room.

The All-China Outstanding Children's Literature Award, launched by the China Writers' Association in 1980, is held every three years to promote children's literature in China. The award is one of the highest literary awards in China, alongside the Mao Dun Literature Prize and Lu Xun Literature Prize, and is the only national award in children's literature.
