The All-China Women's Federation, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Civil Affairs and several other departments have recently announced a campaign to care for one million disadvantaged children and left-behind children whose parents have migrated to other places for work.
According to the announcement, they will organize a total of one million volunteers, including women's federation officials, members of the executive committees of the women's federations, family education experts and directors of children's affairs in relevant departments and college students, to spend time with one million disadvantaged and left-behind children in the upcoming winter vacation.
The campaign, with the name of "Taking Love Home," will center on reunion, happiness and love, which are characteristics of the Chinese New Year. Three activities, namely "Taking Good Family Traditions Home," "Taking Law and Safety Home" and "Taking Social Care Home" will be held during the campaign.
Officials of the women's federations, family education experts, and directors of children's affairs in relevant departments will visit disadvantaged and left-behind children and give guidance and assistance according to their conditions.
Experts and teachers will give lectures on family education and share good examples of family traditions and education.
The relevant units will organize parents and children to watch revolutionary and patriotic films in villages and communities, learning more about the revolutionary history of the New China and the history and stories of the Communist Party of China so as to raise patriotism among the children.
The departments of public security, education, judicial administration and other relevant departments will publicize the rule of law and safety education at primary and secondary schools prior to the winter holidays. The communities' parents' schools will invite experts to promote law and safety education to parents and children, to protect children from traffic accidents and accidental injuries, and prevent them from engaging in illegal activities.
The announcement also urges social forces, including charity organizations and volunteers' teams, to care for left-behind children during the holiday. The women volunteers, presidents and members of the executive committees of the women's federations of the villages and communities will visit homes of disadvantaged and left-behind children, to celebrate the upcoming Chinese New Year together with them.
