Women of China (WOC) is the first women's journal launched by the Central Women's Committee of the Communist Party of China and the official magazine of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF). A theme event marking the 80th anniversary of the founding of WOC Magazine and the activity of sharing cover stories is held in Beijing on November 15.

Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee and President of the ACWF, delivered a speech at the event.

Huang Xiaowei, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the ACWF and Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, presided over the event.

Shen hoped that all the women-related media outlets of the Party, like Women of China magazine, would better assume the responsibility of guiding, serving and connecting women, and make new contributions to the publicity work in the new era.

Shen highly affirmed the important role of the WOC magazine in uniting and guiding women to follow the Party in terms of political guidance and public opinion direction in the periods of China’s revolution, construction and reform since it began publication.

Wu Shangzhi, President of the China Periodicals Association, praised WOC magazine for its long history, high-quality content and far-reaching influence, which have left such an indelible mark on the history of the journal development.

In the section of sharing cover stories, videos showed impressive stories of Shen Jilan and Tu Youyou, winners of the Medal of the Republic, Wu Zhudi, one of China's first female pilots, and Wei Fengying, one of China's Most Beautiful Strivers as well as one of the first group of the National March 8th Red-banner Holders.

At the event, six outstanding representatives of Chinese women shared their stories on how they remain true to their original aspiration and pursue dreams. They were 82-year old Miao Xiaohong, one of China's second group of female pilots and has returned to the sky earlier this year; Li Suli, bus conductor and a national model worker; table tennis world champion Deng Yaping; Tang Limei, the first female scientist in China's deep-dive ocean and polar science investigation; Yu Liufen, a village Party secretary working at the front-line of the poverty alleviation campaign and Zhao Hongfei, an engineer with the Tianjin Rocket Center.

The WOC magazine also launched a new media campaign of conducting interviews to follow the revolutionary spirit of Yan'an, one of former revolutionary bases of the Communist Party of China. Wu Haiying, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, presented the media group with a flag.

Over 200 people attended the event, including readers of the WOC magazine and representatives from the Publicity Department of the CPC Central Committee, the China Periodicals Association and the women's federations around the country.

The WOC magazine started publication in Yan'an in 1939 and it became an official magazine of the ACWF at the First National Women's Congress in 1949.
