Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the NPC Standing Committee and President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), recently made an investigation in the China Medical Women's Association (CMWA), a group member of the ACWF.

"The ACWF's group members are from different walks of life and are highly professional," Shen said. "We need to work closely with them to provide quality service to women and children in an all-round way."

During the survey, Shen went to the Peking University Third Hospital in Beijing where she visited the doctor's consulting rooms and mother-and-baby room at the pediatric outpatient department.

She emphasized that a person's health condition in childhood has important effects on the person throughout his/her life, and scientific prevention and control of children's diseases was necessary for the healthy growth of children.

When visiting the obstetrics clinic, Shen inquired about the impact of the second-child policy on obstetrics department, and the diagnosis and treatment of seriously ill pregnant women.

Qiao Jie, President of the CMWA, and Chen Xiaofeng, Vice-President of the CMWA, introduced the development of women doctors and the work of the association.

They said the CMWA has the obligatory duty to provide health services to women and children by working closely with the women's federations at different levels.

Shen spoke highly of the contributions made by the association in leading women physicians to serve the people, especially women and children.

She talked with female physicians and heads of relevant departments of the National Health Commission of China about the children's health, the screening of breast cancer and/or cervical cancer for women, the coverage of the health service for impoverished people and the collaboration between families, schools, and the society.

Huang Xiaowei, Secretary of the Leading Party Members' Group of the ACWF and Vice-President and First Member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, joined in the investigation.

The ACWF's group members are organizations of outstanding professional and technical talents, and they are an important professional force behind women's federations. The ACWF needs to give full play to the professional role of the China Medical Women's Association in health care for women and children and create cooperation opportunities between it and women's federations. The association can be expected to back the ACWF in health publicity, knowledge promotion, and drafting of the new National Program for Women’s Development and Child Development, said Huang during the meeting.
