Shen Yueyue, Vice-Chairperson of the Standing Committee of National People's Congress (NPC) and President of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), visited a school and children in poverty-stricken families in northern China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region on May 23 ahead of International Children's Day.

Shen visited the classrooms, dormitories and the playground at a local school in Qahar Youyi Front Banner, Ulanqab City, Inner Mongolia.

The NPC organs and the ACWF brought children's charity projects to the local banners to support the children's healthy and happy growth.

The projects include the Children's Happy Home, a charity project providing child care services, family education guidance, psychological counseling and other services for rural left-behind children.

Added to those are the Children's Safety Program, a child safety education project that aims to improve emergency education for children through knowledge and experience; and the Water Cellar for Mothers Project, a national charity project to help inhabitants of western China, especially women, alleviate poverty caused by lack of drinking water.

"General-Secretary Xi Jinping is very concerned about the healthy growth of children and teenagers, especially those who are left behind in rural areas and have difficulties in living," said Shen."The Qahar Youyi Front Banner and the Taibus Banner are the designated poverty-relief regions of the NPC organs and the gifts we bring here to the children are more than gifts; they show the concern of the Party, the country and all segments of society for children and teenagers.

"I am so glad and proud of you when watching you performing the dance happily and seeing you studying and living with optimism and confidence," Shen said to the students. She encouraged them to set life goals, have their own dreams and develop in an all-round way.

Shen also visited two children whose parents are physically disabled in two villages in Bayintala Town.

"The difficulties are temporary," she said, encouraging the two children to help their parents with some housework as best they could.

Shen demanded that the women's federations, at all levels, should center on cultivating the new generation who were capable of undertaking the task of national rejuvenation, and urged the federations to earnestly implement the Family Happiness and Well-Being Campaign. "Women's federations should coordinate the efforts of family education and promote good family traditions, teaching parents how to educate their children in a scientific way, helping children develop good thinking, maintain good conduct and establish good habits, and making the core socialist values take the root in the hearts of the children and teenagers," Shen noted.
