The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) held a meeting for its senior officials in Beijing recently to discuss how to better implement the spirit of the speech made by Chinese President Xi Jinping when he met with the organizations' new leadership on November 2.
President of the ACWF Shen Yueyue, who is also vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of China's National People's Congress; and, Huang Xiaowei, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, attended the conference and gave separate addresses.
Xi, who is also general-secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission, spoke with the ACWF leadership elected at the 12th National Women's Congress of China (NWC) on the importance of upholding the socialist path with Chinese characteristics for women's development and mobilizing women to make further achievements.
Shen said Xi's speech has become a guiding principle of carrying forward the work on women's growth in the new era and that women's federations nationwide have already conducted their own studies and implemented its spirit since the end of the 12th NWC.
Shen emphasized that women's federations across the country should prioritize the studies and implementation of the spirit of Xi's speech in their political task; enhance the so-called "Four Consciousnesses"; strengthen the "Four Confidences"; and, resolutely uphold the authority of the CPC Central Committee and its centralized, unified leadership with Xi as the core .
Officials from women's federations should bear their fundamental duties in mind; deepen personal ideological and political work; guide women from every section of society to follow the call of the CPC; and, improve their relevant in women-oriented poverty reduction, rural vitalization, actions to improve the physical health of females, the observance of environmental-friendly lifestyles, and housekeeping services.
Furthermore, they should mobilize women to strive for higher achievements in the new era; provide assistance to disadvantaged women, especially those from impoverished families and those with disabilities; and, safeguard the rights and interests of underprivileged women.
The federations should also conduct the Look for the Most Beautiful Families campaign; strengthen their operations on family education and the promotion of core socialist values; carry forward the reform work at the county-level; improve their online work; consolidate the cultivation of competent personnel; and, strengthen their political consciousness, become more advanced, and better represent the people.
Shen urged women's federations at all levels to assume personal responsibilities, identify their duties, intensify efforts to translate the spirit of Xi's speech into concrete benefits for women, and elevate the work on women's growth into a higher level.
Huang said the ACWF has closely followed the instructions by Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee; prioritized the study and implementation of the spirit of Xi's speech, as urged by Shen; and, deepened their understanding of the spirit of Xi's speech and draw inspiration as well as advice from part-time vice-presidents of ACWF when making and implementing relevant working plan.
The ACWF will also integrate the observance of the spirit of Xi's speech into the organization's overall work.
During the gathering, several part-time vice-presidents of the ACWF, namely Cao Shumin, secretary of the Party Committee at Beihang University; Yu Yanhong, member of the Party Committee in the National Health Commission; and, Shi Dai, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the All-China Federation of Trade Unions, shared their inspirations and feelings from learning the spirit of Xi's speech and gave their advice about how to better carry forward it at personal workplace.
They were joined by Song Yushui, vice-president and member of the Party Group in the Beijing Intellectual Property Court; Liu Yang, member of the People's Liberation Army Astronaut Brigade; and, Meng Man, a professor from the School of History and Culture at Beijing-based Minzu University of China.
Meng said great efforts should be made to further popularize traditional Chinese culture in the new era featuring gender equality. She urged women's federations nationwide to strengthen their cooperation with relevant government departments in the promotion of traditional Chinese culture in a correct direction.
Those in attendance at the conference also included Zhang Xiaolan, Xia Jie, Wu Haiying, Zhao Wen and Zhang Dongmei, all of whom are members of the Secretariat of the ACWF; and, director-generals of the federation's functional departments.
