The All-China Women's Federation (ACWF) held a training workshop from November 23-24 for presidents of women's federations across the country to study the latest spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC).
Shen Yueyue, vice-chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and president of the ACWF, delivered a speech at the workshop and participated in group discussions.
Shen urged women's federations at all levels to upgrade their thoughts and actions by studying the congress spirit; lead and unite women to firmly follow the leadership of the Party; and, make achievements in the new era.
Song Xiuyan, vice-president and first member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, presided over the opening ceremony of the training.
Shen noted that women's federations should regard the studying, publicity and implementation of the congress spirit as their primary and long-term political mission from now on.
Shen urged officials to deeply understand Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, to carry out their work, and to practically shoulder their responsibilities of leading women to follow the leadership of the Party.
Meanwhile, Shen said the historic achievements and changes made by the country over the past five years owe much to the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with General Secretary Xi as its core leader. Thus, she called on officials to firmly strengthen the "Four Consciousness" – namely the consciousness of the ideology, the whole, the core and the line and follow the "Four-pronged Comprehensive" Strategy – to make comprehensive moves to finish building a moderately prosperous society, deepen reform, advance the rule of law and strengthen Party self-discipline.
Officials should also firmly stick to Xi's core leadership in the CPC Central Committee and the whole Party; unswervingly follow the path of women's development with Chinese characteristics; and, extensively unite women to contribute their wisdom and strength to realizing the Chinese Dream.
Shen highlighted that women's federations at different levels should lead women to play their role of "holding up half of the sky" in promoting the great cause of Socialism with Chinese characteristics for a new era, and center on the goals and important deployments put forward at the CPC congress.
Under the guidance of new development concepts, women's federations should also inspire women to obtain new achievements in their posts; forge ahead in women's innovation; carry out campaigns including Women's Action on Rural Revitalization and Women's Action on Poverty Alleviation; and, promote women's international exchange.
Moreover, women's federations should continue to carry out the promotion of family civilization; constantly enhance family education guiding services; and, put the core socialist value in force.
Federations should also support women to be involved in innovation in social governance and maintaining social stability, and guide families and women to actively participate in the country's development and try their best to make contributions in this new era.
Aside from this, federations should consider connecting and serving women as their work focus and firmly keep women's needs in mind to help women obtain a sense of happiness and safety.
Shen urged officials to get more involved in performing their duties in safeguarding women's rights and interests; pay more attention to caring for grassroots women and do their best to provide more practical services for women and children.
They should also vigorously promote the healthy development of women's housekeeping services and strengthen children's education and elderly people's services; conduct activities to lead women to learn and adhere to the law; actively participate in perfecting the system of caring for so-called "left-behind" children whose parents have left them at home and work elsewhere, and rural women, as well as seniors, to make them feel the warmth of the Party.
Shen urged women's federations at all levels to stick to the leadership of the Party in an all-round way; continuously strengthen their political nature of serving women; always adhere to the unified leadership of the Party on reform; hasten to finish the reform tasks and next year's reform mission; further strengthen their basic work and carry out women's work online; enhance research and transform working approaches; and, thoroughly conduct themed education activities.
Accordingly, the training workshop highlighted the pertinence and effectiveness of studying the congress spirit.
Tan Lin, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, delivered a themed lecture at the event.
Based on the federations' actual work, attendees held discussions and exchanged ideas in groups. Attendees said that they gained a deeper understanding of the congress spirit and how to carry out their work in future.
In the next step, attendees added that they will continue to study and publicize the congress spirit to make it rooted in women's minds; future promote women's development and safeguard women's rights and interests; and, deepen federation reform and enhance the cohesion of the federation to lead women to make a difference.
Zhang Xiaolan, vice-president and member of the Secretariat of the ACWF, stressed that Xi's Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era should be considered as the guiding ideology to promote women's undertakings and innovate in the federation's work.
More efforts and pragmatic measures should be taken to advance federation reform; strengthen the reform of grassroots women's federations and women's work online; transform working styles; and, make new progress in women's affairs led by the reform.
Women's federation officials from various provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and vice-provincial cities as well as Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps in northwest China attended the workshop.
