ACWF VP Heads Delegation to APEC Women and the Economy Forum

Deng Li, Vice-President and Member of the Secretariat of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), recently headed a delegation to the 2017 APEC Women and the Economy Forum (WEF) in Vietnam.

This year's forum was held from September 26-29 in the central city of Hue, under the theme of "Enhancing women's economic inclusion and empowerment in the changing world."

Over 700 representatives from 19 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) economies,  APEC secretariat  and  APEC Business Advisory Council, attended the event.

Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Vice-President of Vietnam, attended the forum and delivered a speech.

The forum was comprised of three parts: a public-private dialogue on women and the economy, a meeting on policy partnership, and a high-level policy dialogue.

Participants conducted dialogues on topics such as promoting gender equality for sustainable, innovative and inclusive economic growth; enhancing the competitiveness and innovation of women-owned enterprises in medium, small and micro-sized economies; and, narrowing the gender gap in human resources development.

The High-Level Policy Dialogue also passed the 2017 APEC Women and Economy Forum Statement and submitted it to the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting to be held next month in Da Nang, Vietnam.

Remarks from Deng Li

As the Head of the Chinese women's delegation, Deng gave remarks at the High-Level Policy Dialogue and the first sessionof the Public-Private Dialogue on Women and the Economy.

Women's empowerment and gender equality are significant measures to turn the social and economic challenges into opportunities, Deng said.

In the future, people should actively promote women's all-round development and their participation in regional and global trade.

Meanwhile, people should support women to play a bigger role in innovative and green development.

Deng also shared the development experience of Chinese women with attendees.

She called on women across Asia-Pacific Region to contribute efforts into the construction and development of Belt and Road Initiative and the expansion of communication and cooperation in various fields.

Deng also met with many officials including Nguyen Thi Thu Ha, President of Vietnam Women's Union; Lakshmi Puri, Deputy Executive Director of UN Women; and Heads of Delegations of Russia, Vietnam and Republic of Korea.
