Shenzhen's first breast feeding room built under the "10㎡ of Love" project [Guangzhou Daily]
A tidy room equipped with all that is needed for breast feeding — a sofa, a wash basin, a power input and a cupboard, has been set up at the Luohuo District Women and Children Activities Center in Shenzhen in south China's Guangdong Province.
This was the city's first breast feeding room built under the "10㎡ of Love" project, a nationwide campaign jointly initiated by UNICEF and the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, according to Zhu Ligui, director of the Working Committee on Women and Children of Luohu District.
"10㎡ of Love" calls for the establishment of breastfeeding rooms in public buildings and workplaces throughout the country.
Zhu said the committee planned to build more such rooms in 83 communities in 10 neighborhoods across the district to facilitate breast feeding.
Currently, Luohuo District has set up two breast feeding rooms through renovation of public restrooms.
According to a plan on women and children's development rolled out in 2012, the city government proposed establishing breast feeding rooms in newly-built public places and set the goal of making at least 25 percent of public places breast-feeding-friendly by 2015.
