Celebrities Attend 14th National Congress of China Zhigong Party

Several famous Chinese celebrities attended the opening of the 14th National Congress of the China Zhigong Party in Beijing on December 3, 2012. The Party is a non-communist political party.

Attending delegates included Zhang Ziyi, Li Bingbing, Zhu Mingying and Chen Ailian. Zhang became internationally famous for her leading role in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon directed by Taiwanese director Ang Lee in 1999, while Li has won fame for her roles in The Forbidden Kingdom (2008) and Resident Evil 5 (2012).

Meanwhile, singer Zhu has a large fan base in China and Chen, who is also vice president of the Chinese Dancers Association, is a well-known dancer.

The China Zhigong Party was founded in October 1925 and currently has about 20,000 members. The party is mainly comprised of overseas Chinese who have returned to the mainland, relatives of nationals living abroad, as well as those with close connections with overseas Chinese.

In attendance at the opening ceremony were Standing Chairman of the congress's presidium and Minister of China's Ministry of Science and Technology Wan Gang, Vice Premier and Member of the Standing Committee of Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CCCPC) Zhang Dejiang.

The 14th National Congress of the China Zhigong Party is scheduled to be held on December 3-6, 2012, during which an amendment to the party's constitution will be passed and its 14th Central Committee will be elected.
