Beijing will increase the proportion of women in politics over the next five years and extend the working life of women with senior professional qualifications, according to the Beijing Working Committee on Women and Children Development Plan released last Friday.

The proportion of Beijing women among municipal CPC representatives, deputies to the National People's Congress and members of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference will grow to 30%, and the proportion of women among leaders in district and county bureaus to 20%, deputy director of Beijing Working Committee on Women and Children Zhou Jing told the reporter. Zhou added that the proportion of women community workers would grow to more than 40%.

Women with senior professional certificates may also, upon reaching agreement with their employers, retire later than at present, Zhou said.
