Gansu Women and Children Development Foundation (GWCDF) in northwest China's Gansu Province has launched a series of charity projects and promoted charity campaigns to serve women and children in the area over the past five years.

Water Cellars for Mothers

GWCDF secured safe drinking water for locals after receiving financial aid from organizations and individuals.

It allocated 950,000 yuan to build 375 water cellars for 518 households, benefiting a total of 2,200 villagers in two towns in the county of Yuzhong, Lanzhou city.

It allocated a fund of 1.3 million yuan to carry out safe drinking water projects in five schools in the county of Quzhou.

It allocated a fund of 452,000 yuan to address concern over drinking water for 332 households, totaling 1,347 people, in two villages in the city of Dingxi, thus helping lifting the entire villages out of poverty.

It also allocated a fund of 300,000 yuan to install water purification facilites for five schools in the province.

GWCDF raised a fund of over 1.97 million yuan to provide 1,416 impoverished children and 88 inmates' children with 16 items of goods worth 1,000 yuan, including sportswear, sports shoes, thermos flasks, schoolbags and dictionaries.

GWCDF delivered a total of 41,776 postal parcels which contained donations to over 40,000 impoverished women in the province. Over 6 million yuan has been spent in backing the project.

GWCDF donated over 1.7 million yuan to 423 households which grapple with poverty due to major diseases in the province.

GWCDF funded some 212 children with cleft lip and palate in the province for their medical treatments.

GWCDF offered assistance to two poverty-stricken schools, one old people's home in the city of Jinchang, and 60 impoverished children in Gansu Province after receiving 200,000 yuan fund and material donations valued at 130,000 from its counterpart in Beijing.

After receiving donations worth over 1.36 million yuan, GWCDF allocated 500,000 yuan to fund 100 cervical and breast cancer patients in the counties of Xihe and Zhangxian, 200,000 yuan to renovate the houses of 20 impoverished households in the county of Xihe, 343,000 yuan to purchase dietary supplements for citizens in the city of Longnan, 124,400 yuan to purchase a health express automobile for the county of Xihe, and 200,000 yuan to purchase female hygiene products for women in the county of Xihe.

GWCDF spent 100,000 yuan offering free paper-cutting skill training courses for some 320 so-called "left-behind" women and physically impaired people in the district of Anding in Dingxi City.

Now, over 50 women have achieved business success and created over 1,000 jobs for women in the city.

GWCDF continued to offer assistance for impoverished students in the province.

It allocated a total of 400,000 yuan to upgrade facilities in five primary schools in the county of Gangu.

It drummed up 960,000 yuan to help 10 needy mothers, 10 impoverished students in Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and 12 excellent but impoverished children in the district of Xigu, Lanzhou City.

It donated 100,000 yuan to improve the teaching conditions in Zhangxian No.2 Middle School.

It also used donations worth 232,200 yuan from the Standard Chartered Bank to purchase 1,800 pairs of shoes for 1,800 students in four schools in the county of Zhangxian.

GWCDF allocated a total of 610,000 yuan to help renovate properties owned by 305 single mothers in the cities of Dingxi and Tianshui.

Delivering Infant Formula

GWCDF delivered a total 4,000 boxes of Nestle infant formula worth over 7.51 million yuan to some 1,333 orphaned, physically disabled and impoverished infants in nine cities in the province. The move has greatly improved the conditions of these babies.

GWCDF will launch more projects and ensure that impoverished women and children in poverty-stricken areas can widely benefit from them, according to a spokesperson.
