The China Women's Development Foundation (CWDF) held a launch ceremony for the 2017 White Angels Fund & Kimberly-Clark Care Female Medical Staff Charity Campaign on March 24 in Beijing.

During the ceremony, Huang Qingyi, director general of the CWDF, received a donation from personal care corporation Kimberly-Clark (China) and presented the company with an honorary enterprise-citizen medal.

Then, attending leaders launched the project together; handed out bronze medals and certificates to the project's demonstration and pilot units, ambassadors of love and child health instructors; and, allocated gift parcels to medical staff representatives to extend social care to them.

In 2016, a survey on the current situation of clinical medical staff serving at the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics was carried out in 40 maternal and child healthcare hospitals across the country.

Sponsored by the CWDF and the maternal and child health education committee affiliated to the Chinese Association of Maternal and Child Health Care, the survey aimed to learn about respondents' working conditions, health level and social support to provide suggestions for relevant work of the White Angels Fund.

The survey was first conducted in Beijing Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital.

During the launch ceremony, organizers announced the results of the survey, which indicated medical staff's sharp workload increase and their widespread demand for further study.

According to the survey, 23 percent of the polled gynecologists were overloaded with more than 100 patients daily. In addition, there was a universal need for training on medical skills, psychology, social etiquette, parenting, foreign language and healthcare to promote professional capabilities and better serve mothers and infants, the survey suggested.

After the ceremony, attending leaders visited medical staff working on the front line and families with new-born babies. In particular, they brought the care and love of people from different sections of society to pregnant medical workers sticking to their posts.

Since its establishment in 2013, the White Angel Fund has improved the overall quality of the country's maternal and child healthcare services, cultivated massive versatile talents in the child health field and offered professional guidance and assistance to many women and families by carrying out serial charity activities such as the Big Classroom, the One-on-one Medical Skills Assistance Action and the Child Health Instructors Training.

Meanwhile, by distributing free health guidebooks among expectant mothers, it assists doctors to spread relevant knowledge to boost mothers and infants' health.

Moreover, by holding training and mental counseling activities for female medical staff, the fund helped to promote staff's mental health conditions and relieve their pressure.

As one of the fund's first project pilot units and a co-organizer of this launch event, the Beijing Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital (also Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital affiliated to Capital Medical University) has taken part in the fund's assorted work since 2013, including organizing training sessions and symposiums and handing out guidebooks.

In addition, it has conducted considerable investigations into medical workers, providing reference for the projects' implementation.

Chen Xiaohong, former deputy-director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, also attended the event.
