Henan Launches Fundraiser for Needy Children

A fundraising event called 'Feel Thankful in 2012, Realize Dreams in 2013' was held in Zhengzhou, capital city of central China's Henan Province, on January 14, 2013, raising a total of 19.2418 million yuan (US$ 3.0941 million) to help needy children in the province.

The event was sponsored by the Henan Charity Federation. Information on how the funds will be used will be made available to the public on Henancishan.org.

The proceeds will go towards helping left-behind children whose parents have left their hometowns to seek better jobs in the cities, disadvantaged children with serious illnesses and neglected children, said Secretary-General of the Henan Charity Federation Shi Xuping.

Among other things, the funds will be used to build children's centers, form volunteer groups, deliver educational classes and provide daily necessities to the children.

Shi said that the charity program is completely open to the public so that more people can help the children. "Institutions, enterprises and individuals can all help in their own ways," said Shi.

This year, the Henan Charity Federation will allocate 45.63 million yuan (US$ 7.3327 million) to help 2,000 needy children, treat 600 children with serious illnesses, subsidize the expenses of 300 disadvantaged senior high school students, build 40 children's centers, and form 40 volunteer teams, in collaboration with 11 charity institutions and volunteer teams.
