Meng Tingyi has become one of the honored few actresses from Mainland China to win best actress award at the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia 2010 in Japan.

Meng Tingyi makes her acceptance speech at the award ceremony.
Meng with her short film August 15th

Meng won the award for her role in the 21 minute film August 15th, based on true events, about a couple traveling on a country bus to meet the boyfriend's parents that gets hi-jacked  The hi-jackers hold the girl to ransom, but no-one – neither her cowardly boyfriend nor any of the other passengers – is willing to help her. Meng's expression of the fear, anger, sorrow and disappointment the girl goes through justly won her the prize.

As few others from China have been named best actress during the 12 years since the Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia was founded in 1999, this is truly an accolade.
