The Liaoning Women and Children's Fund provided 500,000 yuan (US $70,585.57) in grants for 100 students passing the college entrance exam, to help them in their college studies.
The Fund held a ceremony on August 20 to commend the welfare projects, enterprises, and organizations engaged in the care and support of women and children.
It also granted scholarships to student representatives with financial difficulties at the ceremony.
Providing financial aid for college students is just one of the measures the fund has taken to help students with financial difficulties.
It has also collaborated with local enterprises to launch scholarship programs. Since 2010 it has sponsored 2.07 million yuan for college students and helped 88 students from single parent impoverished families finish their college studies.
In order to support women entrepreneurship, the fund worked with local financial institutions to provide women with preferential loans, including 196 million yuan in discount loans to 3,018 women wanting to start their own businesses, and 75.76 million yuan of low-interest loans to 11 companies and 416 female entrepreneurs.
For left-behind children in rural areas, the fund promoted the Little Migrant Bird Reading Corner program, setting up book corners in 210 women and children's homes in 14 cities across Liaoning Province. These book corners have organized nearly 1,000 reading, art and sports activities every year for over 10,000 left behind children cross the province.
In addition, the fund has launched health care programs for women and children in Liaoning, including eye health screening for 5,960 people, 153 of whom went on to have operations with total fee reductions of more than 380,000 yuan.
The fund also implemented disaster relief in a timely manner to help women in disaster-affected areas to rebuild their homes. For example, when the tornado hit Kaiyuan City on July 3, the fund provided 100,000 yuan for the procurement of reconstruction materials for stricken families.
It also mobilized the women's federations of Shenyang, Anshan, Tieling and Yingkou cities to call on local women entrepreneurs and social forces to donate money and materials to the affected women.
