The Department of Finance of North China's Shanxi Province appropriated 51.1 million yuan (US $7.4 million) recently to offer free breast and/or cervical cancer to rural women in poverty-stricken counties.

The free "two cancer" (breast and cervical cancers) screening program, one of the beneficial policies of Shanxi Government aiming to enhance the well-being of local residents, was launched in 2017. To date, 137 million yuan (US $19.85 million) has been utilized to cover the expenses of "two cancer" screening for more than 1 million impoverished women.

The program is organized and supervised by the women's federations at the city and county levels. To ensure the transparency of the program, detailed information of treated women should be submitted to local women's federations for further examination and approval when medical organizations apply for the screening fees.
