Women's Federations in Action Against Domestic Violence
A campaign in Beijing to observe the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women [Women Voice]

Women's federations nationwide carried out various campaigns on November 25 to observe the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

Beijing

In northern Beijing, the women's federation of Changping District organized a lecture to promote China's Anti-domestic Violence Law, and deepen publicity and education on women's law, along with other activities to encourage harmony.

The women's federation of Huairou District organized an event to raise awareness against domestic violence. A series of entertaining programs enhanced women's consciousness to protect their legal rights and taught them how to prevent against domestic violence and bring their households more happiness.

Villagers also received publicity materials introducing in detail how to prevent and curb domestic violence and build safer families.

Guangdong Province

Organizers in Shenzhen recently held a seminar to share their experiences of strengthening the construction of the legal system to curb domestic violence as well as promote the implementation of the Anti-domestic Violence Law.

A total of 120 experts and scholars from Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the mainland shared their opinions on four aspects including the cooperation mechanism of the anti-domestic violence departments; the establishment and improvement of the mandatory reporting system, social assistance and shelter system; and, the cohesive mechanism of social organizations and government departments.

Guangzhou Women's Federation in south China's Guangdong Province set up a special program called Love My Family in September 2015 to build multiple and comprehensive social support networks for domestic violence survivors, and provide professional social services to affected women and children. To date, approximately 500 cases of domestic violence have been received and handled.

Shandong Province

Women's federations at all levels in Qingdao City in east China's Shandong Province conducted publicity through lectures, on-site consultations, promotional materials, and painting and calligraphy works, for the needs of women and families. They achieved positive results, according to officials.

On November 23, Gaomi Women's Federation in Qingdao held a public lecture to promote anti-domestic violence law and the building of harmonious families.

On November 25, Ji'nan Women's Federation opened a hotline 12338, a platform for women's rights protection, to start an anti-domestic violence campaign. The platform provides legal services such as online consultation, case analysis and law classes, to serve local women and children.

The same day, Zaozhuang Municipal Women's Federation carried out an activity to publicize the Anti-domestic Violence Law and provide consulting services in a local residential community. 

On November 24, Dezhou Municipal Women's Federation invited a guest lawyer to record a program on anti-domestic violence at Dezhou radio station. The professional gave a detailed interpretation of relevant provisions of the Anti-domestic Violence Law, guided women survivors to utilize legal ways to protect their legitimate rights and interests.

The women's federation, public security bureau, and a local law firm in Huantai County made a radio program to analyze the causes and harms of domestic violence, and put forward suggestions. They also emphasized the social significance of the Anti-domestic Violence Law.

Organizers in Ji'nan conducted an event to publicize relevant women-related laws. Female lawyer Li Hui gave a lecture based on her years of experience in handling cases. She also gave a detailed interpretation of the law.

Zibo Municipal Women's Federation held a seminar, and inspected the work carried out against domestic violence in Taiyuan community and Liuyi community in Zhangdian District.

A training session was held for grassroots officials of women's federations in Dongying City. Civil judges from the Municipal Intermediate People's Court gave lectures on marriage and family disputes, mediation knowledge, principles and skills. More than 300 directors of village women's federations participated in the training.

On November 24, publicity and consultation activities were carried out in Heze City. Over 200 promotional materials and manuals on the Anti-domestic Violence Law and the Law on the Protection of Women's Rights and Interests were issued to the public. More than 100 people came for the consultation.

Jiangsu Province

Before this year's International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, the women's federation, judicial bureau, public security bureau, planning commission and the School of Law of Yangzhou University in Yangzhou City in east China's Jiangsu Province organized an event on the promotion and consultation of laws.

Gansu Province

In September, northwest China's Gansu Province issued the Note on the Establishment of Gansu's Anti-domestic Violence Work Linkage Mechanism to define anti-domestic violence work as the common responsibility of the provincial Party committee, provincial government departments and women's federations and grassroots organizations.
