Women's federations across southwest China's Yunnan Province recently implemented an innovative work pattern designed to promote local regional reform.

The mechanism, referred to as "1+1+N", symbolizes how township-level federations are situated at the core, and village- or community-level branches act as supportive part linking various relevant social groups, said He Hongmei, president of Yunnan Women's Federation.

The initiative has enabled the organizations' executive committee members to better unite and serve women from different industries and sectors, the official noted.

During the past year, statistics indicate that township-level women's federations across the province elected a total of 35,737 executive committee members, 1,374 presidents, plus 7,287 full-time and part-time vice-presidents.

Meanwhile, the organizations at villages and communities involved an overall 215,094 executive committee members, 14,279 presidents, 45,352 full-time and part-time vice-presidents, and nearly 490,000 women representatives.

Grassroots Reform Initiatives

In the city of Tengchong, Wang Cuifen, 77, is one of the 17 executive committee members of the local federation. She opened a store for her flower arranging business after retiring as president of Tengchong Women's Federation.

In the city of Kunming, a community-level women's federation was established in July on a commercial street that attracts many female consumers. The organization later launched a service platform providing entrepreneurship and employment information among residents. So far, 18 women have gained small loans entrusted onto the platform.

Women can also attend regular training sessions run by the organization to learn about knowledge in regard to health and rights protection.

A grassroots organization in Shitoutang Community of Zhaotong City organized a team of female volunteers to help disadvantaged people and deliver condolence goods and money to those in need during different festive periods.

The organization in Zhanyi Community, Qujing City, carried out initiatives under the guidance of Party building work.

Their work mechanism has positively linked the organization's president, vice-president, executive committee members, female representatives, and community households, said an official.

Such novel work patterns have accelerated the women's federation reform and regional organization development at the grassroots level, the official added.
