A delegation of officials from the National Working Committee on Children and Women (NWCCW) under the State Council, or China's cabinet, held an inspection tour in north China's Tianjin on November 29-30 to learn about the progress made by local authorities in promoting gender equality education amongst students in elementary and middle schools.

Along with President of Tianjin Women's Federation Dai Yun, who is also vice-director of the Tianjin Municipal Working Committee on Children and Women, and Vice-President of Tianjin Women's Federation Yan Yingxia, Deputy-Director of the NWCCW's Office Zhang Li visited several local primary schools in three districts where the piloted educational work on gender equality was conducted.

The city selected one target school from each district at the end of last year to pilot the educational work on the promotion of gender equality amongst teenage students.

So far, all involved schools have made huge achievements and accumulated valuable experiences in popularizing the concept of gender equality amongst their students via various themed activities.

During the inspection tour, Zhang highly praised the city's efforts in the pilot educational work. She noted that it was a living example made by local authorities to implement the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and to facilitate the basic state policy of gender equality.

Zhang continued that it was of great importance for Tianjin to integrate the education of gender equality into local schools' curriculums, include it in work to foster a harmonious culture on campuses, and to win the participation of parents in the piloted educational work.

For their part, other members of the delegation  voiced constructive proposals about how to further the pilot educational work.

In response, local officials said that they would sum up the positive experiences and practice gained in those pilot schools and conduct the educational work in more schools in future.
