According to the Shanghai Landscape and City Appearance Management Information Center, Shanghai will continue to upgrade its public toilets in the next few months.

The city will establish 19 environment-friendly public toilets, renovate 182 and set up 40 gender-neutral facilities by the end of the year.

In this way, the average distance of any public toilet downtown will be under 250-300 meters, whilst the density of public toilets in other urbanized areas will be no less than three toilets per square kilometer.

The layout of sanitation toilets will also be optimized.

During the construction and renovation period, 3D landscape planning, hi-tech facilities and green materials will be involved to improve hardware and ventilation.

The public toilets are expected to be aesthetically-pleasing urban landscapes, providing quality toilet services, according to officials.
