To celebrate International Women's Day, women's federations at different levels across China have launched various events and campaigns, such as Women's Rights Protection Week, women's photo exhibitions, galas and awards ceremonies. Chinese women, with their own wisdom and distinctive power, are striving to realize their hopes and dreams in the new era.

Beijing

Beijing Launches Women's Photo Exhibition

In order to implement the Party's initiative "women build new features, build Chinese Dream," the Second National Women’s Photography Exhibition was launched at the Chinese Museum of Women and Children on March 1.

The exhibition venue is in the main hall of the museum. The exhibition is designed to build a platform for female photographers to exchange ideas and communication.

The photography exhibition continues the success of the first exhibition, to reflect women’s development and changes through the eyes of women.

The exhibition will run from March 1 to 23.

Xinjiang

Xinjiang Starts "Women's Health Care Action"

With International Women's Day approaching, the Xinjiang Women's Federation launched a campaign to provide free check-ups for disadvantaged women in northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region on February 24, 2014.

The "Women's Health Care Action" event includes free health examinations for 400 women; free cervical cancer and breast cancer screening for 2,000 women; discounts on health examinations for 1,000 women in the workplace, and donations for 10 women with cervical cancer and breast cancer. Xinjiang Tianshan Hospital will be funding these initiatives.

Director of Xinjiang Tianshan Hospital Yang Xiubin said that the total cost for all the free treatments will be between 400,000-500,000 yuan (US $65,280 – 81,600).

Forum Held to Discuss Harmonious Family Construction in Xinjiang

More than 80 people attended a forum on harmonious family construction in Urumqi, capital city of northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region on February 26, 2014.

The forum aims to cultivate a modern family atmosphere and make family play a positive role in the development of society.

President of Xinjiang Women's Federation Hasiyeti Aili called on women’s federations and women in Xinjiang to do family construction work.

Hasiyeti proposed certain areas that should be factored into the construction of harmonious families, such as strengthening national unity education work, boycotting illegal religious activities, illegal religious propaganda materials and network communication structures of illegal religion, strengthen socialist core value systems and promote modern culture. 


Henan

Special Recruitment Event for Women Held in Central China

A special recruitment event for women was held in Xuchang City, in central China's Henan Province on February 25th.

Since International Women’s Day is approaching, Xuchang City wants to build a platform for women to be able to access more job opportunities. This event was also designed to provide legal and policy advice, job guidance and training services to job seekers.

Event organizers set up a special “Women-only” area in the hall. Some recruiters also displayed "Ladies first" slogans to welcome female applicants. Although this special recruitment event was for women, some men also attended.

Shaanxi

Shaanxi Launches Campaign to Serve Rural Areas

The "Bringing culture, technology and healthcare to rural areas" campaign was held in Chenyuan Township in Baoji, a city in northwest China's Shaanxi Province on February 17.

"Bringing culture, technology and healthcare to rural areas" is a program under which officials, doctors, scientists and college students go to the countryside to spread scientific literacy and knowledge, as well as offering medical services to farmers.

The campaign works in closely with relevant departments across the province. For this campaign, the Shaanxi Women's Federation committed 517,000 yuan (US $83,857) for various women’s federation projects such as Water Cellar for Mothers. It also brought medical staff, counseling and legal experts to provide services to farmers.

Shaanxi Women's Federation supplied many books for free during the campaign, including "women's legal knowledge contest compilation", "parents textbook", "Spring Bud essay selection", "girlfriend". More than 3,000 books and magazines, 500 energy saving posters, and 200 women's fitness dance videos have been issued.

Ten awards were presented to women who have made outstanding achievements in the economic, political, cultural, social and ecological civilization construction of the city at an evening gala held by the Jinzhong Women's Federation in north China's Shanxi Province on February 24, 2014 to celebrate the upcoming International Women's Day.

The event aimed at guiding women to promote the spirit of self-improvement and devotion to work, making efforts for the realization of the 'Chinese Dream'.

Huang Yaochun, member of the Standing Committee of the Jinzhong Municipal CPC Committee, attended the gala and gave awards to winners.

Shanxi Holds Evening Gala to Celebrate International Women's Day

Five videos were played at an evening gala celebrating the upcoming International Women's Day held at the provincial TV station of north China's Shanxi on February 28, 2014 to show the progress and development of Shanxi women and the outstanding achievements in local women's work.

Models for the advancement of women shared their growing experience and insights on life, and their indomitable spirits won warm applause from the audience.

President of the Shanxi Women's Federation Wang Weiqing extended holiday greetings at the event to the 17 million women of Shanxi and heartfelt thanks to the leaders and departments that support women's work. She confirmed the success that women’s federations have had in 2013, and called on them to promote the development of women, safeguard women's rights and interests, and build women's federations into reliable homes for local women.
