Over the past year, the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese Government have attached great importance to the development of women and children's causes in China, says Shen Yueyue, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and president of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), during a reception in honor of the annual March 8th International Women's Day. Over the past year, the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Chinese Government have attached great importance to the development of women and children's causes in China, said Shen Yueyue, vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and president of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), during a reception in honor of the annual March 8th International Women's Day. The reception, which was held at Beijing's famed Great Hall of the People on March 6, 2015, attracted more than 1,000 attendees, including female officials from Chinese government organs, representatives from academic institutions, female generals, diplomats and foreign experts.

On behalf of the ACWF, Shen extended a warm welcome to all the distinguished guests from home and abroad. During the past year, the ACWF, adhering to the basic guideline of reaching out to and serving women, conducted the campaign "Making New Contributions and Achievements to the Realization of the Chinese Dream" and pushed forward four key initiatives — "Making Contributions," "Upholding Women's Rights," "Caring for Women" and the "Initiative for Capable Women" — while making progress in all areas of its work.

In particular, the federation showed its great concern for women's quality of life, paying special attention to the difficulties and needs of the average woman. In 2014, the amount of registered subsidized microcredit granted to women reached nearly 37 billion yuan (U.S. $5.897 billion); free cervical and breast cancer screenings were provided to 10 million urban and 1.2 million rural women, and more than 10,000 impoverished women living with breast cancer or cervical cancer received financial assistance for their treatment; the Action for Elimination of Anemia among Infants and Toddlers benefited 140,000 infants and toddlers; and charity programs, such as the Spring Bud Project, Water Cellar for Mothers Project and Health Express for Mothers Project, continued to expand their scope and impact.

Shen noted in her speech that the year 2015 marks the 20th anniversary of the United Nations Fourth World Conference on Women (held in Beijing in 1995). "Looking back on the past 20 years of efforts [made] by all countries with a joint effort to promote gender equality and women's advancement, we have been deeply inspired. We believe the future of women's causes is full of hope. Sisters, let's join our hands, our hearts and our minds to make new contributions to promoting gender equality, world peace and development, and the prosperity of our countries," Shen concluded.
