In total, 18 projects were awarded a second prize, third prize or prize for excellence. The top recipient group received 200,000 of the total one million yuan shared among the winners.

"By participating in the competition, we have gained and accumulated valuable experience, and have enhanced our confidence and strength of entrepreneurial innovation. We hope the results will benefit patients in the future," Zhang Xiang, head of a winning team, told the interviewer after the competition.

The event, which started on September 6, was jointly launched by Guangdong Women's Federation (GWF), the Provincial Human Resources and Social Security Department, and Hengqin New District Management Committee in the city of Zhuhai.

In addition to funding, the award-winning projects and teams can also enjoy preferential policies such as site protection, guaranteed business loans, quality improvement grants, policy subsidies, talent selection recommendations, and one-stop HR services.

According to GWF, the organizer of the competition, the event fully implemented the spirit of the important speeches made by President Xi Jinping and the 12th National Women's Congress.

It also further promoted women's contributions in innovation; set up a platform for  innovation and entrepreneurship among outstanding female talents; and, gathered women's strength in building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a world-class area and a world-class city group.

According to statistics, as of October 12, the organizing committee had received 1,457 innovation and entrepreneurship projects from across the country. A total of 100 projects by 50 enterprise groups and 50 team groups entered the re-evaluation phase.

Among them, science and technology innovation projects accounted for 71 percent. As regards regional distribution, there were three projects from Hong Kong; four from Macao; and, ninety three from six provinces and cities including Guangdong, Beijing and Shanghai, and seventy three from nine cities in the Greater Bay Area.

Industry experts from different fields gathered in Hengqin to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the 100 finalists on October 25. A total of 20 projects of the enterprise group and the team group were selected for the finals on December 5.

Xu Liyong, president of Shenzhen Rongyuan Holding Group Co., a judge at the finals and tutors of the finalists, commented that the competition remained at a high level both in terms of project innovation and the quality of female entrepreneurs, and many projects had great potential for business investment.

He said, "The competition was successful. It provided a platform for the full display and wonderful bloom of the wisdom and talents of female entrepreneurs, and also created opportunities for investors."

According to GWF, the contest attracted a number of high-quality entries and participants, thereby establishing a new platform for innovation and entrepreneurship for the development of outstanding women.

Wang Junhui, head of Shaoguan's Shouyi Ormosia Weaving Cooperative, who won the third prize of the team group, said, "I am honored to meet female entrepreneurs in Hengqin. Thanks to the competition committee for providing us with such an opportunity, giving us female entrepreneurs a good platform and an access to showcase our own products and projects."

In order to better promote the development of female entrepreneurship and innovation and make full use of the location advantages and high-tech resources, GWF set up four Women's Entrepreneurship and Innovation Bases in the cities of Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Dongguan this year.

He Dingyi, member of the National Committee of the CPPCC (Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference) and president of the Macao Women's Federation, said women from the Macao SAR will work together with people from different sectors of society to actively participate in the construction of the Belt and Road initiative with the help of central beneficial policies.

They will also dedicate women's irreplaceable role of "holding up half the sky" in promoting the major strategic deployments for the area, the sustainable development of the Macao SAR and the prosperity of the country.
