North China's Shanxi Province has improved public facilities for parents by opening hundreds of specialist mother-and-baby rooms throughout the province in recent months, say officials.

According to the latest figures, there have been 871 such facilities available for use by the end of September.

Since the implementation of the universal two-child policy in 2015, the province has ramped up efforts to upgrade support facilities. They have targeted 983 public sites, including airports, stations, hospitals, business centers and scenic spots.

Local officials said the coverage rate has reached almost 92 percent, 12 percent higher than the goal set for this year.
