Beijing Women's Federation (BWF) co-hosted a press conference along with other municipal departments on December 18 to publicize typical cases of safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of women and children in accordance with the law.
The event was organized in cooperation with the Higher People's Court of Beijing, the People's Procuratorate of Beijing, the Beijing Municipal Judicial Bureau and the Beijing Municipal Human Resources and Social Security Bureau.
At the conference, officials released 10 typical cases concerning women's rights protection in the capital from the past two years.
The 10 cases addressed issues involving women and children's personal rights, property rights, labor and social security rights, marriage and family rights.
Topics addressed in the cases included: sexual assault against students; revoking the status of children's legal guardians; punishing bullying in schools; safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of divorces; and, protecting female employees against sexual harassment.
More units were involved in the conference than previously, including courts, procuratorates, human resources and social security bureaus, lawyers and women's federations. The first typical cases report was released in 2016.
The conference was aimed at implementing the rule of law, the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China and the 12th National Women's Congress, and practicing Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era.
The conference also provided a working model for looking for representative cases, publicize the achievements of rights protection, creating a favorable atmosphere for promoting gender equality and enhancing the effects of rights protection.
The conference also played an active role in guiding women to respect, use, learn and abide by the law, and urging society to further protect the legitimate rights and interests of women and children.
Attendees included Chang Hongyan, deputy secretary of the Leading Party Group and vice president of Beijing Women's Federation; Xia Yinlan, a professor from China University of Political Science and Law; and, Ma Yi'nan, a professor from Peking University.
