Organizers in the Minhang District of Shanghai held a young health lecturer contest on May 3 at Xinzhuang Town Culture Center to popularize health knowledge among the public.

The activity was hosted by Minhang Health and Family Planning Commission and 20 speakers took part.

Competitors each made full use of their six-minute lectures by introducing vivid topics, filled with humorous expressions and skill, said a spokesperson.

They spoke on 20 subjects including flu, the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases, first aid skills, breastfeeding and traditional Chinese medicine.

After the contest, organizers presented 10 gold medals, one medal for the most popular lecturer, and 10 medals to outstanding organizations. The 20 finalists were appointed as the first group of members of the health lecturers' team.

The local health commission will produce a free online video course based on the 10 gold medal lecturers' talks to provide quality health knowledge to citizens.

"The success of the contest and the establishment of the lecturer team can satisfy people's strong needs for scientific and authoritative health knowledge and further help build a healthy China," said Huang Taocheng, secretary of the Party work committee of the commission.

"I also hope the young lecturers' team can become a new engine to accelerate the development and reform of healthcare in Minhang District," he added.
