The past few years have seen great success for the women's federation in the district of Chengguan in Lanzhou, northwest China's Gansu Province, in rescuing hundreds of couples on the edge of divorce via its professional mediator services.
Guo Bin, president of the district women's federation, said in a recent interview that her department set up a mediation office at the marriage registration center in cooperation with the local bureau of civil affairs in 2010 in a bid to deal with the rising divorce rate amongst local residents.
Since then, the federation has organized many professionals to act as counselors for those couples locked in a marriage crisis and help them find peace again.
Statistics show that the office has provided services to roughly 6,500 couples and successfully drawn 2,200 pairs of them from the brink of divorce.
