Wu Luanying, a 47-year-old impoverished resident in Wangji Village in Si County, east China's Anhui Province, was recently given the opportunity of making cloth shoes in her village.

With technical training, Wu can make three pairs a day. She believes that she will be able to produce seven to eight pairs later with better skills, earning her some 80 yuan (U.S.$ 11.9) a day.

The county nowadays has established 25 cloth shoes workshops targeted at poverty alleviation, creating more than 700 posts to increase local residents' incomes.
