Ge Lan Awarded Commemorative Medal

The China Media Group holds an award ceremony on September 12 to present medals in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China to 144 people. [China Women's University]

 

Ge Lan, an alumna and specially-appointed professor at China Women's University (CWU), was presented with a medal in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) by the China Media Group, in Beijing, on September 12.

Jointly released by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the State Council and the Central Military Commission, the commemorative medals were mostly awarded to living veterans and comrades who participated in the revolutionary war before the founding of the PRC, living individuals who received honors and awards at the State level and above after the founding of the PRC, living veterans who received honors above the first-class merit citation after the founding of the PRC, and foreign friends who have made outstanding contributions to the founding of the PRC.

In addition to Ge, 19 beneficiaries went to the podium and accepted their share of honor on behalf of 144 individuals awarded with the commemorative medals at the ceremony.

Ge was one of the first group of graduates at the CWU and one of the first generation of news broadcasters in the PRC. After retirement from the China National Radio in 1999, she returned to the university and started her career of being an instructor.

Since then, Ge has been closely involved in the formation and development of the CWU's discipline of announcing and anchoring, and made sound performance in teaching.

During a gathering with teaching staff from the  School of Culture and Communication of the CWU on September 10, also Teachers' Day, Ge spoke of her participation in the celebration activities on the occasion of the founding of new China in 1949.

She encouraged them to cherish the glories of the past and grasp the opportunities of the present, strive for excellence at the workplace, and create a better future for the university.

Ge said with excitement during the award ceremony that the medal fully demonstrated the priority and intense care accorded by the CPC Central Committee with General Secretary Xi Jinping at the core to the work on veteran cadres and retirees and showcased the recognition from the Party and the mass people to their historical contributions.

Ge continued that she would make full use of her talent and come up with concrete proposals in an effort to nurture more professional personnel majoring in announcing and anchoring and make higher contributions to the country in the future.
