CWU Holds 23rd Track and Field Event

The 23rd Track and Field Event of China Women's University opens on April 19. [China Women's University]

 

China Women's University (CWU) was brimming with activity as its 23rd Track and Field Event got under way with the theme of "Good for body and mind." Both teachers and students competed and benefited from the event on April 19.

Li Mingshun, Secretary of the Party Committee of the CWU, Liu Liqun, President of the CWU, Wang Jingxia and Wang Lian, vice presidents of the CWU, Ren Cuiru, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the CWU and Chairperson of the Employee Union, and members of the Sports Committee of the CWU attended the event.

More than 1,000 students and over 300 teachers and staff competed in 59 competitions, including 100-metre run, 200-metre run, 1,500-metre run, high jump, long jump and shot put.

Chaired by Wang Lian, the opening ceremony started in the early morning, with a national flag-raising ceremony. The flag was escorted by guards into the sport ground. The crowd stood as the national anthem was played and sung, while the flag was raised. Then, teams of students, teachers and staff entered the field for review by other teachers and students.

Li gave a speech during the ceremony. In his speech, Li stated that the CWU urged teachers and students to take exercise and ensured that teachers stayed healthy and worked for the country for 50 years. He told the teachers to set a good example for their students and do well at the sports meeting to guide students toward a healthy lifestyle.

He urged the students to take exercise to improve physical and mental conditions while living by the CWU sports spirit of "With sports comes more beauty; With youth comes greater ardor."

Teachers and students gave performances after the opening ceremony, including yoga, tai chi fan demonstration and martial arts.

The closing ceremony was held in the CWU sports ground in the afternoon. Wang Jingxia delivered the closing speech.
