The final of the third Ge Lan Chinese Classics Recital Contest was held at China Women's University (CWU) in Beijing on October 13.

The contest, which was named after Ge, an 85 year-old former announcer in China, has been dedicated to the promotion of traditional Chinese culture and has enjoyed a rising popularity amongst nationwide audiences since it was established in 2016.

The latest competition was co-hosted by Xia Qing Cultural Museum, Xia Qing Communication School at Handan College in north China's Hebei, the Female Chinese Classics Recital Center, the School of Culture and Communication, and Gelan Studio at the CWU.

The final event drew the attendance of over 600 contestants from 22 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. They were divided into various groups and took part in their competitions in 10 different venues at the university.

At the beginning of the gathering, Ge led them to recite the Long March, a revolutionary poem written by late Chairman Mao Zedong (1893-1976) in October 1935.

Competitors presented their shows around the recital of classical Chinese literature.

CWU vice-president Wang Lian visited the judging committee and representative contestants on the sidelines of the final event.

Speaking at the closing ceremony in the afternoon, Zhao Hao, member of the Standing Committee of the CWU Party Committee, emphasized that the university has had a glorious revolutionary tradition and is expected to undertake a unique mission and responsibilities in the new era.

Zhao continued that the CWU will draw upon its academic advantages and scientific research in literature and cultural communication and better act on the call of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in a move to further popularize the recital of classical Chinese literature amongst women and children.

Award-winners from different groups gave their performances at the closing ceremony as well.
