CWU Opens Congress of Faculty, Trade Union Members

China Women's University (CWU) opened the 3rd Congress of Faculty Members and Trade Union Members (RATUM) in its hall on the morning of July 17.

CWU Vice-President Wang Jingxia, who is also executive chairperson of the congress, presided over the opening.

Feng Mandong, executive vice-secretary of the Party Committee of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF), highly praised the CWU for its preparatory work of the event in her speech at the ceremony.

She noted that the university should learn and implement Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and the spirit of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC), carry forward its reform and development, make unremitting efforts to serve faculty members and maintain harmony on campus, strengthen the building of Party branches and give full play to the role of the congress.

Qiu Aijun, executive vice-president of Beijing Teachers' Union, acknowledged the CWU's outstanding work in the organization of the congress. She called on the university to deepen its reform on the trade union in a drive to better meet new conditions faced by mass organizations, and urged the faculty congress and the trade union to make full use of their functions and rally more support from all staff members in building the university into an elite higher institute reserved for women.

In her work report to the congress, CWU President Liu Liqun summed up the university's major work in terms of structural building, talent cultivation, the training of female officials, and international cooperation over the past five years.

Liu stressed that the university should closely act on Xi Jinping Thought and the spirit of the 19th CPC National Congress, strive for the realization of its 13th Five-Year Plan, accelerate the building of its administrative mechanisms, deepen reforms and make preparations for the assessment of its academic programs for undergraduate students. It should also press ahead with applications for qualifications in conferring postgraduate degrees, improve the competence of its faculty members, strengthen the cultivation of officials from women's federations, advance new campus construction, elevate the level of its internationalization, beef up Party-building affairs and consolidate relevant work.

Zhao Yanping, executive vice-president of the CWU Trade Union, reviewed her organization's development in the past few years and presented her proposals to the newly elected leadership of the trade union in the fulfillment of its major tasks.

CWU Vice-President Wang Lian gave an introduction to the progress in handling proposals to the second congress and the collection of proposals to the third congress.

Those present at the event included Li Mingshun, secretary of the CWU Party Committee; Liu Meng, vice-president of the CWU; Ren Cuiru, deputy secretary of the CWU Party Committee and secretary of the CWU Commission for Discipline Inspection; and retired CWU officials.
