China Women's University (CWU) held a lecture on May 28 to encourage students to boost their aspirations, strive for higher achievements, pursue greater knowledge and hone their personal skills.

The lecture was co-hosted by the Publicity Department, the Student Affairs Office, and the Department of Political and Ideological Affairs of CWU.

It was part of a citywide campaign to organize thousands of college students to attend such themed classes under the directive of Beijing Municipal Party Committee and the Party Branch Committee of Beijing Education Department.

The event was designed to encourage students to better follow the two keynote speeches of President Xi Jinping, as delivered at a gathering with students and staff at Peking University on May 2, and during a conference on May 4 to mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Karl Marx, respectively.

The event was also held to mark the 40th anniversary of China's reform and opening-up policy.

In one lecture, Yao Nianlong, director of the Student Affairs Office at Beijing Jiaotong University, answered attendees' questions on why and how young people should become patriotic in their lives; cautioned them over unapproved public opinions; and, encouraged them to aim for higher achievements and work hard to realize their personal dreams.

Meanwhile, drawing upon examples in daily life, Wang Xun, deputy secretary of the Party Committee at Capital Normal University's School of Life Sciences, talked with students on how to become down-to-earth individuals imbued with lofty ideals.

Those present at the lecture were student representatives from all schools and departments in the university.
