China Women's University (CWU) hosted a training session in the State Forestry and Grassland Administration's management institute on May 4-5 for secretaries of Party committees from different schools and departments.

The event aimed to further increase competence in and knowledge of Party-building and other relevant issues amongst those participants.

The two-day training event drew the attendance of Li Mingshun, secretary of the Party Committee at the CWU; Sun Jianbei, vice-president of the CWU; as well as full-time and part-time secretaries and deputy secretaries of different Party branches.

It aimed to make a closer observance of the key points of the 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, better follow President Xi's keynote speech at a gathering with faculty members and students of Peking University on May 2, act on the general requirements concerning Party-building work, and increase the political and theoretical competence of directors of the grassroots Party branches.

Wu Meihua, a professor from Renmin University of China, gave a lecture to attendees about how to become a competent chief of the grassroots CPC branches in universities and gave them an introduction to President Xi's stay in rural areas of northwest China's Shaanxi Province as an educated youth during the decade-long "cultural revolution" (1966-1976).

Qin Dezhan, a professor from the Party School of the Beijing Municipal CPC Committee, talked with participants about the building and innovation work of the grassroots Party branches from the perspective of challenges and problems faced by them and their focuses in their ongoing work.

In addition, three chiefs of the grassroots CPC branches at the CWU shared their experiences and practical examples of their management of Party-building affairs.

During his speech at the closing ceremony, Li called on heads of those grassroots CPC branches to closely follow the standards and requirements in the running of Party-building affairs, and give full play to their functions in rallying support from faculty members and college students in the completion of all major tasks.

He urged participants to balance the accomplishment of political and academic tasks, correctly handle relations between CPC organizations and personal issues, conduct supervision and criticism amongst each other, and give priority to better serving the public in the constant improvement of ties between the CPC and grassroots people.
