CWU Hosts Seminar on Gender Equality and Women's Happiness

 November 2, 2015

On October 29, to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, Collection of Women's Studies, Journal of China Women's University (CWU), and the CWU Research Center of Marxist Theory co-sponsored a seminar on Gender Equality and Women's Happiness, at the Xizang building.

Experts and scholars from the Women's Studies Institute of China, Peking University, Renmin University of China, the Communication University of China, Labor Central Committee, China Women's University and other departments participated in the event. CWU president Liu Liqun and vice-president Liu Meng also attended the seminar. Su Ruping, director of the Department of Ideological and Political Theory Education, presided over the gathering.

Liu Meng noted that holding the seminar was of great significance to CWU, because of its strong ties with the Fourth World Conference on Women. She hoped that different social sectors and academic communities could pay more attention to women's studies, and strive to promote the development of the subject.

Focusing on the main theme of the conference, scholars discussed and exchanged their opinions on the relation between gender equality and female happiness; China's development of Marxist gender equality theory; some thoughts about socialist women's theory construction with Chinese characteristics; egalitarian and justice theory on women; and, the space for gender and women. The event attendees further discussed the theme of "happiness" in respect to equality between men and women, in a heated discussion and series of communications. Later, those present carried out a special discussion between female college students. The organizers also held a special seminar for female university students later after the seminar.

The attendees achieved a lot from listening to the enlightening speeches. Those from the Research Centre of Marxist Theory hoped that such a seminar could promote academic exchange, improve teachers' and students' academic literacy, and cultivate a good academic environment.
