CWU Hosts Opening Ceremony of Seminar on Capacity Building for Mauritius Female Officials

A seminar on "Capacity Building for Female Officials from Mauritius in 2015", organized by China's Ministry of Commerce, took place at China Women's University (CWU) in Beijing on June 1.

Mu Hong, Director of the International Department of the All-China Women's Federation (ACWF); Mr. Chedumbaru, Charge d'Affaires of the Mauritius embassy in China; and CWU President Liu Liqun, attended the event and gave speeches at the opening. They were joined by a total of 29 seminar members and officials from relevant institutions. Liu Meng, Vice-President of CWU, hosted the ceremony.

Mu Hong, on behalf of the International Department of ACWF, expressed warm congratulations on opening the seminar and her sincere greetings to the Mauritius female officials present. She conducted a review of the development of the friendly relationship between China and Mauritius and stressed the great importance of the seminar. She pointed out that the seminar would further promote exchange and cooperation between women of the two nations and friendship between the two peoples and beyond.

Liu Liqun warmly welcomed the Mauritius female officials and delivered heartfelt thanks to the International Department of the ACWF for all the guidance and support they had thus far given. She said that the seminar could help the officials build their capacity and offer them the chance to share each other's culture, history and results in management and practices. She expressed her hope that the seminar would develop into a platform for CWU to become an influential university in the world.

Mr. Chedumbaru, Charge d'Affaires of the Mauritius embassy in China, expressed his sincere thanks to China's Ministry of Commerce, the ACWF and CWU for organizing and launching the seminar. He said that to promote capacity building of female officials in Mauritius reflected social progress, and that the seminar would serve to promote friendship between the two nations and the development of Mauritius' women.

Ms Doonmoon, representative of the seminar members, vowed to learn more about China and its experiences in women's development, so as to make full use of the fruits in future work in her country.

The 20-day seminar will focus on various topics, such as the overall conditions in China, women's role in Chinese social development, progress in China's laws and regulations concerning women, the history and status quo of Chinese women's groups, the professional development of Chinese women, and media literacy training for female officials. In addition, visits will be paid by the seminar members to places with Chinese history and culture and sites that show the nation's capacity for innovation. Research will also be conducted in east China's Zhejiang Province for the Mauritius officials to learn about work concerning women, women's employment and the development of the socialist "new countryside".
