Residents of Beijing's Chaoyang District recently staged a community-run play called The Most Beautiful Family, to promote positive family virtues among friends and neighbors.
The local women's federation and culture committee organized the production as one of a series of cultural events in the program I Am a Chaoyanger.
The play was inspired by residents' real-life stories and was performed at the home of the Guosheng Peking Opera Troupe.
Many parts were handled by enthusiastic amateurs, such as Xing Xiuying and Zhou Wentao, a couple both in their 70s, who acted as the titular "most beautiful family". Despite being normal members of the public, they rehearsed with passion and vividly represented household harmony, said spectators.
Officials in Chaoyang have launched the Looking for the Most Beautiful Family campaign on the basis of the Five-Star Civilized Family initiative since 2014, promoting the activity through various means.
In 2017, authorities aimed to further improve coverage of the event and find even more "beautiful families" who possessed such positive virtues.
Performed on International Women's Day, the production sent a warm greeting to outstanding women in Chaoyang and conveyed the best of fine family culture, said officials.
After the show's run ended, staff members planned to hold more performances in future and vowed to donate ticket revenues to good causes.
